THE MARKS OF TIME  —SANDALWOOD INCENSE BOX  —EYESHADOW BOX

Sandalwood Incense Box

Every morning my grandma lights a sandalwood scented box. The white smoke escapes and spreads out. As a child, I never liked the smell of it. Lately, lighting a sandalwood incense has been out of practice. When I come upon the smell, I recall more than just the scent of sandalwood, but memories of my grandma. The work was inspired by the curio box owned by emperors in ancient China. It was made using techniques involving etching and openworks to highlight its magnificence and exquisite details. The plated copper was painted dark and left to oxidation to create a worn-out effect, bearing witness to the passage of time. I have designed a box to keep and relish the memories of my grandmother.

Eyeshadow Box

Grandma has always been the source of inspiration for my creative works. She was loving to my grandpa, demanding to her children, and caring for her grandchildren. Her diligence and frugality have been the pillars of the family. As a child, I would apply my grandma’s makeup and wear her jewellery without asking. Looking at her jewellery box, I saw the passage of time and felt the user’s rich emotions. She has given me her most precious procession, asking me to keep it safe. The box contains more than jewellery and makeups, along with some cherished memories. Complex etching enhances the magnificent exquisiteness. The plated copper was painted dark and left to oxidation to create a worn-out effect, bearing witness to the passage of time.
