“Touch is the sensory mode that integrates our experiences of the world and of ourselves.” (Pallasmaa, 2009:101)

What makes you feel alive? There are tons of answers, but for the physical aspect, it is haptic. Touch is our basic needs. People feel strongly curious about the sense of touch. Even if we already see the object, we still eager to touch it to feel it by hands. But mostly we take it for granted,  we didn’t  realize how tactile experience set in our life. In addition, the needs remind us through an object which let us associate with our experiences and present life. The haptic experience gives human a tactile attention in this distractive world.  Planning to urge viewers’  enthusiasm to touch the object which is around us in the everyday life. Concentrating and re-feeling in tactile with the active touch to the new haptic experience.

Nowadays, living in an ocular-centric society, visual perception plays a huge role in our life, we are attracted to or distracted by diverse kinds of visual design and lack of haptic experience, therefore, how can we raise the awareness of active touch via vision? Mostly, we ignore daily touching or lack of interest in tactility cause that we have already touched it through our eyes. In other words, the haptic experience is often fused and integrated into the visual experience and then turn out to the memories. (Barker, 2009: 31)

In that case, the idea came out of my mind is to create new haptic experiences by experimenting with colours, shapes and materials, try to break down the haptic visuality and evoke viewers’ curiosity. The reason why I try to make jewellery as an awareness of active touch and haptic experience is the close connection between jewellery and the body. What the most important thing I realize when I fell in love with jewellery, cause it jewellery has its space of it, acting as an interface somewhere between itself and the world. (Bensten, 2011:126)

It is hard and sits on the softness of our skin.  These make me think the jewellery may be a tool to communicate with the makers, wearers, viewers and the world. This essay will help me define the framework of my work and explore the way how jewellery sits on the body and as an object how can the wearer have a  sensory dialogue and interact with it.
